‘Karate Kid Legends’ Trailer: Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan Join Forces to Revive the Franchise
A new chapter of “Karate Kid” is ready to kick its way into theaters, with a fresh student learning the classic art of “wax on, wax off.”
Sony has unveiled the official trailer for “Karate Kid: Legends”, the latest installment in the iconic martial arts series, set to hit theaters on May 30.
The film reunites Ralph Macchio, known for his role as Daniel LaRusso in the original 1984 “Karate Kid”, and Jackie Chan, who played Mr. Han in the 2010 remake. Joining them is Ben Wang (of “American Born Chinese” fame) as Li Fong, a new student trained under the mentorship of Daniel and Mr. Han.
The casting of Ben Wang followed a global talent search conducted by Chan and Macchio, with thousands of young actors auditioning from across the world. Wang’s selection was attributed to his diverse martial arts expertise, which includes karate, wing chun/kung fu, gumdo, kempo, and taekwondo.
Reflecting on the opportunity, Wang shared:
“I was the target audience when the original movie came out. I was the same age as the character. That story resonated deeply with me—especially since the film was set in Beijing, where I had just spent a year living. Plus, I grew up watching Jackie Chan movies. He was my introduction to acting. This project brings all my favorite things together.”
Ming-Na Wen stars as Li Fong’s mother, while Joshua Jackson and Sadie Stanley will also appear in significant roles.
The film is directed by Jonathan Entwistle, known for Netflix’s “I Am Not Okay With This” and “The End of the F—ing World”. The screenplay is penned by Rob Lieber (“Peter Rabbit”), with Karen Rosenfelt producing.
Fans can expect an action-packed journey that blends nostalgia with fresh energy, uniting old legends and new talent to bring the franchise back to the big screen.
