Dortmund beats Atletico in an exciting match and qualifies for the Champions League semi-finals
Borussia Dortmund has advanced to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2013 after defeating their Spanish visitors Atletico Madrid 4-2 in a thrilling match between the two teams on Tuesday at the Signal Iduna Park stadium in the quarter-final second leg.
The first leg ended with Atletico winning 2-1 at the Metropolitano stadium, making Dortmund win 5-4 on aggregate and qualify for the semi-finals to face Paris Saint-Germain, who reached the same stage by defeating Barcelona.
Paris Saint-Germain won 4-1 in the second leg today in Spain after the first leg in Paris ended with Barcelona winning 3-2.
Dortmund ended the first half leading with two goals scored by Julian Brandt and Erling Haaland in the 34th and 39th minutes, respectively.
In the second half, Atletico responded with a goal scored by Mats Hummels, Dortmund’s player, accidentally into his own net in the 49th minute, and Angel Correa added the second goal for the team in the 64th minute.
However, Dortmund pulled ahead again with two goals scored by Nico Schulz and Marcel Sabitzer in the 71st and 74th minutes, respectively.
Atletico couldn’t respond, and Dortmund secured their place in the semi-finals.
