The 10th edition of the FIFA Futsal World Cup is being held in Uzbekistan and will run until October 6th.

For the third time in four editions since expanding to 24 teams, all seven European teams have qualified from the group stage, which concluded on Sunday. Among these teams is the reigning World and European champion, Portugal, who will now face Kazakhstan—a team they previously defeated on penalties in the 2021 World Cup semifinals.

Other teams include France, which exited the group stage in their only previous major tournament appearance (UEFA Futsal Euro 2018), and the Netherlands, who are entering their first knockout match at a finals since UEFA Futsal Euro 1999, where they played Ukraine and won 3-2 in the opening match of Euro 2022 as the host in Amsterdam. That game is scheduled for Tuesday, marking the start of the knockout stage.
