The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series arrives in two editions: Red Ambience and White Ambience. The Maybach SL transforms into a two-seater car with softer suspension tuning and uses a 577-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 engine from the Mercedes-AMG SL 63.
Mercedes is bringing the SL convertible to Maybach treatment. On Friday, during Monterey Car Week, the German luxury brand announced a super-luxury version of its open-top sports car, the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series.
The Monogram Series will be offered in two editions, limited to two color options: Red Ambience or White Ambience. The Red Ambience features Obsidian Black Metallic over Manufaktur Garnet Red Metallic paint, while the White Ambience features the same black color over Manufaktur Moonlight White Magno (matte) paint. The black is only on the hood, and the clear coat is mixed with the red base layer, then coated with clear for added depth to the color.
The most notable change from the standard Mercedes-Benz AMG SL is the transformation from a 2+2 body to a two-seater roadster with dual leather-covered aerodynamic scoops behind the seats. The former rear seat area is now a leather-lined storage space.
Compared to the standard SL, the Maybach version features more chrome, including the windshield surround, rocker panels, the striped Maybach grille surround, down the middle of the hood, and on new trim pieces where you might find vents on the front fenders. Other exterior changes include grille lighting, a Maybach pattern embossed on the lower air intake, a Mercedes star headrest, rose gold accents on the headlights, and unique 21-inch wheels in a five-spoke Monoblock or multi-spoke design. The hood can be ordered with a Maybach logo pattern resembling Louis Vuitton, achieved by printing the pattern in graphite gray on the base layer, then covering it with two layers of matte clear coat polished to perfection.
The black roof also carries the Maybach pattern in dark gray, the taillights feature the Maybach Light signature, and the rear end has chrome accents, a unique diffuser, and split exhaust pipes with a horizontal bar.
Inside, the Monogram SL Series features Manufaktur Crystal White Exclusive Nappa leather upholstery that also covers the door panels and center console. The door surfaces are upholstered in black and also feature Maybach logos. The pattern on the standard comfort seats is an exclusive geometric design inspired by the Maybach pattern on the lower front air intake. Matte chrome accents are found throughout the cabin.
The standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 11.9-inch central touchscreen receive special Maybach startup animations and display themes. The two-tone leather steering wheel is also part of the Maybach package, and the car comes with stainless steel pedals and door sills.
Mercedes has taken steps to make the car quieter and more comfortable. To reduce noise, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine flows through a quieter exhaust system, and the car has added sound insulation in the wheel arches and doors. The tires are also switched from Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss to Pirelli P Zeros, which have sound-absorbing foam inside to reduce noise.
The suspension and engine mounts have been tuned for more comfort. The car features less front camber, softer front and rear spring rates, softer dampers, new steering gear with a slower ratio, and all-wheel drive with a more central bias instead of a rear bias. Rear-wheel steering remains standard. The engine produces 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, just like in the AMG SL 63, but the throttle mapping has been adjusted for smoother starts. The goal is to create a calmer, quieter, and more comfortable driving experience in a car that still packs power and can carve corners.
Mercedes says the SL 680 Monogram Series should go from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 161 mph.
The SL 680 Monogram Series is expected to hit dealerships in the second half of 2025. Expect premium pricing closer to the sale date, with additional colors or editions possibly arriving in the future.
