Celebrating 20 Years of God of War with a Stunning Classic Kratos Skin

Sony is marking the 20th anniversary of God of War with some special treats, including digital goodies from the Norse mythology realms, an art studio event in Los Angeles, and even a vintage record player. The highlight of the celebration? The breathtaking Dark Odyssey Kratos skin (pictured above).

Back in God of War II (2007), unlocking this skin required hours of grueling gameplay in the game’s most brutal difficulty mode. But in 2025, all you need to do is own a copy of God of War: Ragnarök—no extreme challenges necessary.

The Dark Odyssey set will be available for free on March 20 for all God of War: Ragnarök players on PlayStation and PC. You’ll get Kratos’ mysterious black-and-gold outfit (which originally required completing God of War II on “God Mode”—the toughest setting), along with matching armor, weapons, and shields inspired by Dark Odyssey for Kratos, Atreus, and Freya.

However, if you haven’t fully upgraded your weapons, you might be a little disappointed—Dark Odyssey weapon skins are only available for maxed-out versions of each weapon. On the bright side, Santa Monica Studio is adding new customization options for weapon attachments and shield rings.

More Than Just Skins—Exclusive Anniversary Collectibles

The 20th anniversary event also includes a ton of special merchandise. Here’s what you can expect:

– A new collection of art prints, including the one above by Oli Hoff.
– A two-volume retrospective book set, documenting the evolution of God of War since 2005.
– A 13-disc soundtrack collection, featuring two decades of Kratos’ legendary skull-crushing music. (For the first time ever, you’ll also be able to buy double vinyl records featuring the original Greek trilogy’s soundtrack.)

And no God of War collection would be complete without a massive 67-inch Jörmungandr figure (pictured below). This incredibly detailed piece even has a magnetized tongue to hold a removable Leviathan Axe. (Sadly, there’s no matching Kratos figure—so we can only assume he met his end in this timeline.)

Live in Southern California? Experience God of War Art in Person

If you’re in Southern California, you can visit the God of War art exhibition at Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles. The event will feature new artwork inspired by the series, concept illustrations, and rare memorabilia. The exhibit runs from March 15 to March 23.

Want to Play the Series for Less? Here’s Your Chance

If you’ve been wanting to dive into the God of War saga but don’t own all the games, now’s a great time.

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra subscribers can access Kratos’ three most recent journeysGod of War Ragnarök, God of War (2018), and God of War III Remastered —via the game catalog.
PC players can grab God of War (2018) for $20 and God of War Ragnarök for $48 on Steam, thanks to a special discount.

It’s the perfect way to celebrate 20 years of Kratos’ epic adventures!
